Tips for Flying with Autism

The folks at Manchester Airport in the UK were really thinking when they created a downloadable pdf brochure to prepare kids with autism for their airport experience. The brochure is a terrific social story, complete with checklists, photos and descriptions of just what to expect - and a great tool for families who want to be sure their child with autism is ready for the airport.

Of course, most parents in the US and Canada are unlikely to be flying in or out of Manchester. And some of the language of the brochure ("trollies with suitcases on") is very specifically and culturally British. But even if you're going nowhere near the UK, this brochure is a great template for parents preparing their autistic kids for flight.

To make this template work for you, simply use the same format (travel to the airport, at the airport, on the airplane, etc.) - but include images of your own planned journey. You can get images of your local airport from their website, and include images of your destination as well.
