Don't Miss the International Online Autism Conference

Tuesday November 13, 2007
Those of us with limited budgets, limited time, or limited access to babysitters often miss out on worthwhile autism conferences, presentations and events. That's just one reason why this third annual International Online Conference, sponsored by the Welsh group AWARES, is such a wonderful gift to the autism community. You can read, ask questions, debate and learn from the world's top experts - at your leisure - from the comfort of your own home. And the cost is just 3 British pounds!

Here's a bit from the Autism Cymru (pronounced "koom-ree"), Wales' National Charity for Autism:

Just a reminder that the Awares international online autism conference is fast approaching. It starts on November 26, 2007 and entry is open to all. This year's line-up of speakers features many of the world's greatest living autism authorities and all of them will be available to answer your questions.

You can already read the experts' abstracts but the full papers will not be accessible until the beginning of next week.

*Bear in mind that you have to register to be able to read the full papers and put questions to the experts, as well as to take part in the general discussions.*

Last year's event was a resounding success - Professor Simon Baron-Cohen called it "the best online autism conference on the planet." Over 10,000 delegates joined in the discussions and put questions to the more than 60 experts taking part.

This year's conference promises to be even more impressive. The line-up of experts who have agreed to participate is unprecedented. You will have the unique opportunity to put your questions to all of them from November 26. The participants include Dr Lorna Wing, Professor Rita Jordan, Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, Dr Susan Folstein, Dr Gary Mesibov, Dr Darold Treffert, Theo Peeters - as well as some of the most prominent and articulate individuals with autism, among them Donna Williams and Wendy Lawson.

In short, be there or be square. It's a once-a-year opportunity to find out what you need to know from the experts. Perhaps more importantly for us Americans, it's an opportunity to notice that autism is an international issue - and the experts we need may well be on the other side of the "pond!"

One thing is for sure this Conference is never dull. We had some very heated debates with the professionals last year. And for anyone who would like to make a contribution to my paper ‘What is the hardest part of living with HFA/AS – from a Parent’s Perspective. I look forward to hearing your views. :)
