What Made You Seek an Autism Evaluation for Your Child?
My bright, chatty little boy slowly disappeared right before our eyes. He stopped looking at me.
He started doing strange things like spinning in circles, rocking, toe-walking and he stopped talking.
Of course that was over 20 years ago. The doctor was baffled. They did endless hearing checks
but mostly, they just said boys are like that. He'd get over it.
How Did the Diagnostic Process Work?
In the second grade in 1992, he was formally diagnosed with autism. We were told merely that John had autism.
"Your son may never be able to hold down a job or live independently. Not much is known about autism; it's such a
RARE disorder."
I'll never forget that day. We were offered no help and hope.
I felt like my son had a terminal illness. They might as well have said, "Take him home and make him as comfortable
as possible."
Advice
- No one really told us anything effective that we could do.
What Our Diagnostician Recommended
The only thing our pediatrician recommended were prescription drugs to control behavior and focus. We were told there isn't anything
else that will help.
How We Found the Resources We Needed
I educated myself via the Internet. I found groups like the National Autism Association. I also found out about
the ingredients in the host of vaccines they were constantly injecting into my son, regardless of the ear infections or
bronchitis attacks he had.
What We Would Do Differently
IF I COULD DO THINGS OVER, I WOULD NEVER HAVE VACCINATED MY SON OR ANY OF THE OTHERS.
When our daughter was 10 she got the mercury-laced HepB vaccine. A few days later she went into seizures and almost died when she stopped breathing. She was still having seizures when the ambulance got here.
