What Made You Seek an Autism Evaluation for Your Child?

My daughter had turned 2 years but she had never said dad or mum. She used to play alone and spend most of her time watching T.V. She would scream when upset.

How Did the Diagnostic Process Work?

I took her to see a pediatrician who refered us to see an E.N.T specialist who subjected our daughter to several test all which turned out negative. He then sent us to speech therapist who then refered us to a neural pediatrician who did the assessment and told us our daughter has mild autism. It was terrible i cried for a long time untill when i got used.

Advice

  • Patience is important when dealing with autistic children
  • You have to try what ever they tell you to do.
  • You have to be very supportive to the child.
  • Appreciate your child as an individual.

What Our Diagnostician Recommended

He recomended that we take our child to a day care for her to interact with other children.

How We Found the Resources We Needed

In our country UGANDA there are no resources for autistic people so we have not got any support apart from speech therapy.

What We Would Do Differently

If i can get any assistance to take my daughter to countries which provide resources and i learn how i can help my child.
