Autistic Artists Encouraged to Submit Work for New Book
Kevin Hosseini
Julie Deardorff, blogger at the Chicago Tribune, has just announced an exciting opportunity for autistic artists. According to Julie,
... the creators of "Artism: Art By Those With Autism!" want to hear from you. They're seeking original artwork to include in the next book in this series titled "Artism Anew."According to Julie, major names including Temple Grandin, and Donna Williams, have already committed to provide artwork for the book. The coffee table book of color artwork created by people with autism is designed to "literally transform the lives of readers from all walks of life," said project coordinator Karen Simmons, the Founder of Autism Today, and author of the books Artism and Chicken Soup for Soul: Children with Special Needs.
There are no limits to the number of submissions. High quality TIFF or PNG files of artwork must be received no later than August 15, 2008. Artists can send electronic files by email to artism@artismtoday.com. Or mail submissions (they will NOT be returned) to:
Debbie Hosseini
PO Box 630
Carpinteria, CA 93014
I've checked in with Debbie Hosseini, just to be sure this opportunity is on the level, and indeed it is. In fact, her son Kevin has already contributed several of his works to the project - and as you'll see (above), 13-year-old Kevin and his colleagues are artists of real talent. Debbie's site, ArtismToday, includes the call for submissions and an online art gallery you're sure to enjoy.
