About.com Guide to Web Browsers Interviews Creator of Autism-Friendly "ZAC Browser"
Wednesday June 11, 2008
If you've been following autism news, you'll have seen a lot of articles out there about a grandfather who invented a web browser especially for his autistic grandson, Zack. The opening of this AP article may sound familiar to you:
John LeSieur is in the software business, so he took particular interest when computers seemed mostly useless to his 6-year-old grandson, Zackary. The boy has autism, and the whirlwind of options presented by PCs so confounded him that he threw the mouse in frustration. This week, the About.com Guide to Web Browsers called Mr. LeSieur and interviewed him about the browser. It sounds like an ideal program for kids - and adults - on the spectrum. In fact, it sounds like a good option for anyone who needs (or prefers) a simplified, kid-safe web environment.

Thanks for the info! This looks like something that we might be able to use at our school.

Information on the ZAC Browser was part of the June 2008 MIDNIGHT IN CHICAGO e-newsletter to our subscribers list. Something that most people do not know about the ZAC Browser is that it is available in English and French.

That’s neat that it’s available in those two languages…this just gets better and better!
Many of my students with autism are really skilled at and enjoy computers. It’s great that this resource is available to help them have a positive internet experience.
This might be a great topic for a future issue of the Positively Autism newsletter…

I thought that this sounded great so I tried to install it. It ran really slowly at first, then opened up 127 times, causing a lot of problems on my computer. Please be cautious!
this is wonderful my 6 year old (with autism) has been using it safe, easy navigation, downloading was easy and appears to be safe for your computer.
