After the March, How Will the "Green Our Vaccines" Agenda Move Forward?

Thursday June 5, 2008
Yesterday, Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey led a march on Washington to "Green Our Vaccines." Thousands of parents were there in person; others, I'm sure, were there in spirit.

The marchers made and heard speeches. They wore "Green Our Vaccines" T-shirts. With the help of McCarthy and Carrey, there's no doubt that the rally and its agenda made national news.

I wasn't in Washington, so can't report on the event first hand. And, of course, I'm not behind the scenes to hear what the plans are for moving the "Green Vaccine" agenda forward. But perhaps you were there to describe the experience - and perhaps you know much more about what impact Jenny and Jim will have on future funding and legislative choices.

What did you learn from, or at, the rally?

(2) Mary Wiesbrock says:

The following letter was sent. FDA responded that CDC decides the vaccine schedule. CDC has not to date responded if CDC requires studies on the cumulative effect before adding new vaccines to infant schedule.

To:
Mayo Clinic
American Association Of Pediatrics (AAP)
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
National Autism Organization
National Institute of Health

From:
Concerned Grandparents and Clinical Laboratory Scientists

Dear Ms/Sirs:
First, we request copies of the actual studies of the cumulative health impact on babies of the recent almost doubling of the number of vaccines. These cumulative studies must be studies on children who receive all the recommended vaccines as mandated in the United States. Not just a sampling of 3000 Filipino babies who are only being tested for only a single new vaccine and who do not receive the same number of vaccines which are given to American babies at the same times. If no such studies exist, please respond as such.

Second, we also request copies of the actual studies that show that there are good titers of adequate “antibody response” in newborns and infants from all the vaccinations which they have received before 5 months of age. According to AABB, babies do not build adequate titers of their antibodies Anti A and Anti B until 6 months of age. We request that these studies include only studies that measure adequate antibody titer levels in these babies 5 months and under. In addition, it makes sense that a low antibody titer response is not adequate to warrant vaccine administration at that corresponding babies age. If no such studies exist, please respond as such.

Contrary to what CDC says, babies are not born with a well-developed immune system. According to Richard Mayon-White in “Immunizing Children, A Practical Guide”, the immune system is not mature until 2 years of age.

I requested similar study information in recent emails to the American Academy of Pediatrics and CDC. Neither to date answered my specific request.

We are concerned for our grandchildren. We are concerned that 1 in 150 children develop autism today. What is it that we are doing different? It appears that now our grandchildren are receiving nearly double the number of vaccines. We ask the question: are our government agencies now mandating too many vaccines to be administered at the same time at too early of an age?

Who is overseeing the studies: those who have a vested interest in the outcome? Who is doing the studies on the new combo vaccines? Are all immunization studies done by independent entities? If not, then the health and safety of our infants is at risk by a compromised United States immunization program.

By spreading out the administration of infant/toddler vaccines to a smaller number of vaccinations at one time and a once a month schedule, the vaccine companies would still make their profits. Their profits would just be spread out more over more years if the immunizations were more spread out over the infant, toddler, and preschool years. Even a known immunization advocate, Andrew Weil, doubts the need for Hepatitis B and the Chicken Pox vaccine for all children. (“A Shot in the Dark”, AARP, Sept/Oct 2007)

When can the babies produce adequate antibodies titers? Certainly not at birth! Why is the new Hepatitis vaccine given to newborns?. Why not wait until the babies produce an adequate antibody titer/response to the foreign antigen vaccine? Are there independent studies that demonstrate when the infants really begin to produce adequate antibody titers to the various vaccines? Please send us these studies.

Why are these vaccines not spread out more over more visits to the doctor’s office? One shot each month would be safer for their immature immune, digestive, and nervous systems. The vaccination visit need not be a doctor visit. A nurse can oversee if the baby is well and administer the shot. (Just like allergy shots). Please join us in advocating safe vaccinations: not vaccinating until infants are able to produce viable antibody titers, a more spread out program of vaccination, and administering only absolutely necessary infant vaccinations. Vaccination for Hepatitis is not absolutely necessary for babies.

Please use you power to lobby for a safer and more independent immunization program for our infants: a program that does not allow the cumulatively increasing arsenal of vaccinations to be administered too early (at birth and/or before the infant can produce viable antibody titers), a program which spreads out the administration of these vaccines over time, and lastly a program that only administers absolutely necessary vaccines to infants.

We await the actual studies, which we have requested in the first and second paragraph of this letter.
Thank you for your kind attention.

(3) Elizabeth says:

I was at the event yesterday. Somewhere between 5,000 to 10,000 individuals, mostly parents of children who were vaccine injured and developed autism, marched from the Washington Monument to the Capitol Grounds. They heard comments from Robert Kennedy (who last year published an article sharing his position that the vaccine autism link has been misrepresented by the media and government. They also heard from a doctor who treats children with autism who has had great sucess treating correlating illnesses that are so common within the community (food allergies, viral and fungal conditions, gut issues, rashes, etc.) Renowned expert on metal toxicology Dr. Boyd Haley (former Chair of the Department of Chemistry at a respected university) also spoke about oxidative stress and some promising research. (Oxidative stress is important to many health conditions especially to heavy metal efflux needs.)

Jim Carey gave an inspiring talk about how his own daughter Jane, Jenny and Evan have helped him learn to love. He also talked about the importance of developing a vision for the future…his vision was one in which we had better science to help prevent vaccine injury and reduce the incidence of autism.

Jenny McCarthy gave a passion speech about her own experience and the power of speaking out to make change. Most powerful was at the end of the speech when she and all 5,000+ parents turned to the cameras and showed the parents of their injured children.

After 10 years of controversy (Congressman Dan Burton, then Chairman of the Committee on Government Reform) initiated an investigation into the epidemic rise of autism and the potential link to vaccine injury, the government, American Academy of Pediatrics continue to say that ‘all the science’ shows there is no link between vaccines and autism…they choose to focus on epidemiological studies (statistical analysis). The laboratory research and animal studies (mice and primates) tell a very different story however. Respected researchers at MIT, Columbia, Northeastern, University of Pennsylvania, Baylor, etc. are finding that the parents concerns are justified. And the government has quietly conceded in the Vaccine Injury Comnpensation Program several cases in which they admit a child was vaccine injured and developed autism as a result. The one publicly discussed case of Hannah Poiling the child of a physician and nurse had a genetic suceptibility to a mitochonrial dysfunction, her mother has the same genetic variation. However, her mother was not vaccine injured and did not develop autism. They government keeps painting Hannah’s as a ‘rare’ condition when we do not know how ‘rare’ the genetic suceptibility is. Dan Olmstead was present at the rally but did not speak..he reported at www.ageofautism.org that a team of scientists presented at an autism scientific meeting recently on a primate study in which infant monkeys were given the same shot schedule children received in the mid-1990s that included thimerosal. The infant monkeys developed both behavioral and physical symptoms similiar human babies that are vaccine injured.

Parents came to Washington to ask the government to make vaccines safer by working to get ingredients that are known to be toxic such as mercury, aluminum, and formaldehyde) out of the vaccines given to infants. They also are asking that better science be conducted to determine if so many vaccines are truly needed so early in life and who might be at risk for vaccine injury.

There are three bills HR 881 Mercury Free Vaccines Act, HR 1973 Vaccine Safety and Public Confidence Assurance Act, HR 2832 Comprehensive Comparative Study of Vaccinated and UnVaccinated Populations that these families believe are important for passage in the 110 Congress.

It is important to remember that while it is commonly reported that ‘they got the mercury out of vaccines’ - the fact is that 25 mcg of mercury is still in the flu vaccine and trace amounts of mercury remain in a number of other vaccines. This ‘trace’ amount exceeds the amount considered safe for drinking water by 200 times. Babies are routinely injected with 3-6 vaccines on any given vaccine day that contain ‘trace’ amounts of mercury.

Not every child with autism developed autism as a result of vaccine injury, however, a condition that 25 years ago was 1 in 10,000 is now 1 in 150 children (and 1 in 94 boys). The correlation in the epidemic rise directly correlates to the dramatic upsurge in the number of vaccines and the increase in mercury exposure.

The weater in Washington was warm, sunny, and a little humid. The rally staff did a great job of passing out water to everyone throughout the event. Sadly the event organizers did not bring any of the key political supporters of the autism and vaccine community to speak. (Congressman Burton, Congresswoman Maloney, Congressman Dave Weldon, as well as Congressman Chris Smith and Congressman Mike Doyle).

I hope this analysis helps.

I don’t understand if they are saying its not the shots maybe they should give these shot at an older age. I know its cheaper for insuranse companys to give all 3 shot at one time maybe they should break them up and start giving them at 5,6,7 at least they can’t say there they are related in any way. I know with my son I think the shot did cause a problem and I did not know at the time about Autism. He is 12 now and he has come a long way. I just had another child and I will not give him this shot intill he is at least 5 years old. The only down side is that he can not go to school or perschool. I just don’t trust doctors any more I think they have to say all of those shot are safe.

(5) Sandy says:

Just to add, vaccines are given at certain ages due to history showing us who is most effected by these diseases- and the prime age was not 5,6 and 7 but infant and toddler age.

On another note, there are millions who’ve had vaccines with no ill effects, so ‘greener’ vaccines would pertain to which children when we don’t know which would be harmed or not?

June 5, 2008 at 5:03 pm
(6) jgray says:

Hey Sandy, are you sure about all the kids that weren’t harmed by thier vaccines? Do you mean those 149 out of 150 typically developing children? Because I don’t think we’ve developed a test thus far to determine which of those mediocre, average, typical kids was actually destined to be great. I suppose if a child was destined to be genius, and the only damage they got was in becoming typical, you might find that to be ok. I find it really sad. How do you know which ones were damaged?

(7) Sandy says:

I asked “so ‘greener’ vaccines would pertain to which children when we don’t know which would be harmed or not?”

I’d have no idea which were injured by vaccines or not, or how one will prove that. I do agree with what parents have first hand seen of their children. I was pointing out the millions who have not been vaccine injured over many many years- how would one know which really needs a greener vaccine? Since autism effect more boys than girls, one would also have to consider more than just green vaccines. Those statistics have never evened up per boys and girls. So maybe boys need that greener vaccine more so than girls.

And as for those destined to be great? Destined to be genius? Are we blaming vaccines for all of that if they are not and then how would one know who was destined for what? Was that child destiny to be hit by a DUI driver and be bed ridden for the rest of their life? That would be a careless intentional act. Destined to contract a horrible disease and die?

To Margaret and anybody else who is interested: The Defeat Autism Now (DAN)-doctors have a vaccine plan and schedule that they think is safer for our children. Visit their website at autism.com to find out more about it.

Great. They “think” it is safer. Hundreds or thousands of researchers put their efforts into vaccines and the schedule, but that isn’t good enough. But, if ARI “thinks” it’s safer, that works?

Sounds like the ARI/DAN! mercury toxcicity tests and chelation protocol. They “think” it should be OK to use “challenge” tests. But, when real toxicologist who actually treat mercury poisoning look at their methods they say “absolutely not” to the question of whether ARI/DAN! are doing things correctly.

I’ve read some of the “safer” alternative schedules. I guess if you think that measles epidemics (and mumps and rubella) are “safe”, you might agree. The “favorite” schedule that Jenny McCarthy’s organization promotes doesn’t give any coverage for those diseases. None.

That is just plain dangerous.

DAN doctors use cheap tests
and most and Dan doctors only have a day training. I really wouldn’t trust their schedule.

In places where there are no vaccines children have autism. I disagree with “defeating” autism, and “curing” it. My children are not “injured”. They’re wonderful and beautiful and perfect just the way they are.

(12) Sorsha says:

I delayed vaxes for my second son until he was 3 1/2 - he didn’t regress until his round of kindegarten shots at 5 years old. Simply delaying shots for susceptible individuals is not enough. Vaccination is not appropriate for everyone. My son has been diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. You have to wonder how many cases of ADD, ADHD and Aspergers (usually diagnosed in K and up) are really vaccine damage sustained at a later age. Let’s go evern later and look at the 5,000 young girls who have experienced neurological problems after adminstration of the Gardasil vaccine. I didn’t realize that normally developing 14 year olds were at random risk of seizures and paralysis (temporary or permanant) - but the CDC seems to think these are normal occurences for the population. All of these things will be answered with a vaccinated vs. never-vaccinated population. Let’s stop squibbling and get a real study done with a clean control group.

(13) Lourdes Llorens-Darias says:

Some children are simply incapable of dissolving one or more of the ingredients in these cocktails we call vaccines. In my heart I am certain this was what occured in my son Caleb’s case.( the third of our five children )
We need test that can tell us if our child’s body cannot handle the things that make up vaccinations.

(14) AutismNewsBeat says:

I was in DC last week. Here are my impressions:

There seemed to be more marchers at the beginning than at the end. By my estimate, as many as 2,500 lined up near the Washington Monument. The crowd at the Capital was 2,000 or less. I based these estimates on videos I made, Google aerial photos of the staging area and the Capital grounds, and Google Pedometer, which gives me the approximate square footage of each area.

Jim Carrey did not seem comfortable in his role of Typhoid Annie’s Sidekick. As the marchers stood in line, waiting for the kick off, Carrey said “You are a shining example of unconditional love.” Which is true, if your idea of love is to expose kids to deadly diseases, and tell disabled children that they are broken and need to be fixed. Yeah, Jim!

Few if any of the marchers understand vaccines, how they are made, or the difference between polyethylene glycol and ethylene glycol.* So they just repeat talking points.

Most of the speakers took a moment to chide the media for not covering the “epidemic”. McCarthy had parents turn to the cameramen so they could see photos of the kids. Oh, while this happened, Sam Cooke’s “Change Is Going to Come” played over the PA system. In a day of low points, this was near the bottom. McCarthy’s appropriation of this great civil rights anthem shows how little regard she has for the intelligence and sensibilities of her followers. Fortunately, most reporters are smart enough to spot a con job.
