Actor Eugene Levy Becomes Canadian Spokesman for Autism

From Lisa Jo Rudy, About.com GuideJune 14, 2007

Canadian actor Eugene Levy has just joined some of North America's top celebrities as a spokesperson for autism. Says Levy:
I feel extremely passionate about the need for a National Autism Strategy. Canada is blessed in so many ways but somehow some of our most vulnerable citizens are being wrongfully neglected. It is time to address this wrong and provide these individuals with the same access to medically necessary treatment that the rest of us enjoy throughout our lifetimes under our country's allegedly universal health care system.
Levy, who is known for his roles on SCTV and in Christopher Guest "mockumentaries," has a cousin with autism - and thus an insider knowledge of the issues facing families who are coping with the disorder. Harold Doherty, a Canadian autism dad and blogger, offers photos and info about Levy's new role.

In recent months and years, several US celebrities have stepped forward as autism spokespeople. Among these are autism parents Toni Braxton, Jennie McCarthy, Doug Flutie and Don Marino.

Are you familiar with other major celebrities who are taking a stand for autism research, funding and/or treatment? Please share your stories!

I moved to Cnd with my autist child. I could not get her in school or find a dr to see her. I came back to the US. I married a Canadian. Thier health system works great, if you are not sick.
