Get Ready for the Autism Speaks 400 NASCAR Event!

Wednesday May 30, 2007
Last week, I blogged this announcement: "From now until June 1, Dover International Speedway will donate $5 to Autism Speaks from each ticket purchased with a Visa card for the June 3 “Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa” race. Fans can visit www.autismspeaks.org to learn more and donate to this worthwhile cause."

As a quick follow-up for autistic NASCAR fans and their families, you can find pre-qualifying stats the Autism Speaks 400 on the profantasysports.com website. Even if you can't be at the event, you can root for your favorite driver. And even if you're not able to buy a ticket, you can always make a donation!

On a related note, thanks to the readers who explained to me how involved NASCAR is in supporting the cause of autism. Not only are individual drivers taking action, but the NASCAR Foundation is playing a signficant role. It's great to see major figures in sports (football, baseball, NASCAR and more) becoming true role models!

I am the father of a Autistic child, and was very excited to see NASCAR involved with Autisum Speaks. But after watching the race. Not one commercial and only one reference too Autism during the whole race, to say the least I was very disapointed. I blame NASCAR, VISA, and most of all FOX for not helping to let a very large fan base to understand much more about this VERY LARGE PROBLEM. Most people I tell that my son is Autistic still think that he is like RAIN MAN. The name of the race means nothing unless you get the message out.
